RMS Film Festival

RMS is hosting its first ever film festival, Tuesday May 30th at 6:30pm in the Cafe. Five production groups from Mr. Lyne’s Digital Media class will premiere their 10-15 minute documentary film shorts. These dedicated students have been working the past few months planning, shooting, and editing their films, and are excited to publicly exhibit them. Light refreshments will be provided. 2017-18 Elective Sign-Ups

Elective sign-ups for the 2017-18 school year will take place online this week. Look for an email from Principal Drummond on Tuesday with information and the link for elective requests for next school year.

It is a California State law that all students entering the 7th grade have a TDAP immunization in order to attend school.
Please take your student to the doctor, have the immunization completed, and bring proof to the RMS Health Office by June 1, 2017.
This will allow ample time to clear your student for the 2017-2018 school year.

Parent Ed Night at SHS - please note new date

Parent Ed Night: "Living a Distracted Life/Teen Depression & Suicide"
When: Thursday, May 25, 6:30pm
Where: South High Library.
Presenter: Tobi Quintiliani, MFT, Senior Director of the 1736 Family Crisis Center.

If you attended South High's Winter Parent Ed Night, you know that Tobi is an amazing presenter.  SHS PTA has worked closely with Tobi and the South High Counselors and Administration to focus on topics that are most relevant in our community today. Unfortunately, this is becoming increasingly relevant - please join us if you can.  Admission is free to all.

RMS State Testing Continues this Week!


From Vice Principal, Krystal Alcala:
Here are some tips to help your student successfully participate in CAASPP testing:
* Attendance is important. Please ensure that your child is at school every day and on time during the testing period.
* Block periods are longer periods so please ensure that your child is eating a healthy breakfast and gets enough rest.
* Students are also encouraged to bring water bottles to have during the exam.
* 8th grade students taking classes at South are to prioritize South on non-block days.
* Encourage your child to do the best they can!

Dare to Prepare - Workshop for 14-16 year olds - May 9th

Dare to Prepare your teen for the responsibilities of driving a car! The Torrance - South Bay YMCA is partnering with Southern California AAA to offer this awesome workshop for parents and their teens to take together and learn all about the California Graduated Driver's License components, the safest cars for teens, how easy it is to get distracted behind the wheel, and even the effects of small amounts of alcohol on a driver.  This class is an awesome opportunity for parents and teens to understand each other's expectations for driving, is intended for teens ages 14 - 16 years old, and completely free!

Box Tops Contest Winners

Congratulations go out to Mrs. Mufti’s class for winning the spring Box Top contest! Her class will be treated to ice cream! CINCO DE MAYO DANCE
Hola Rattlesnakes!  Next Friday, May 5, is Leadership's Cinco de Mayo Fiesta dance in the cafeteria after school from 3:15pm-4:45pm.  Come join us to relieve the stress of testing and enjoy a fun-filled dance!  Tickets are $2 and will include food.  You can buy a ticket at lunch next week from Tuesday to Thursday outside the cafeteria or at the door on Friday.  It's the last dance of the year, so be sure to stop by the fiesta!
